A Ruddington based removals company has reached a very special milestone this year – as it celebrates twenty years helping to relocate homeowners and businesspeople across the East Midlands and the rest of the UK. They even had a party to celebrate!
Villagers were invited along to meet the staff and crews for a special ‘Near & Far Removals 20th Anniversary Celebration’ whilst enjoying a drink and cake on the afternoon of Wednesday 22nd March 2023 in their new premises at Unit 8, Brookside Road, NG11 6AT. They held a raffle on the day and donated the proceeds to Ruddington’s Bloomin’ Dementia charity. They had a rather special cake, too!
Near & Far Removals and Storage Limited was launched in March 2003 by husband and wife team Martyn and Elaine Langridge {pictured top with Rushcliffe Mayor, Cllr Tina Combellack} along with two good solicitor friends – who remained part of their company for the first six years: “We worked from home in the beginning” reveals Elaine. “Martyn used to answer the phone whilst out on removals and I used to type all the quotes on word in my kitchen. We had two small removal lorries at that time.”
It’s not all been ‘plain sailing’: “We had to close in 2009 due to the recession – but reopened later that year as M J Langridge t/a Near & Far Removals. We moved to Unit 2, Brookside Road around 2011. ‘Brookside Autos’ allowed us to share an office in their building. Due to expansion, and the business growing, we had to become a Limited Company in 2016 – and then opened our ‘new’ business as Near & Far Removals Limited with Martyn and me both being Directors. I was running a very successful bookkeeping business for many years, alongside Near & Far Removals, but I had to sell it due to the sheer volume of work at Near & Far!”
After Brookside Autoservices closed, the team moved into Unit 8, Brookside Road {below} in November 2022. “We have much bigger premises now. I don’t know how we managed next door in the small office we had, but it was good for the time that we needed it!”
Elaine adds: “We now have a 3.5-tonne Luton vehicle, two large 7.5-tonne lorries and an 18-tonne vehicle. We currently have 15 members of staff, including our son James who now runs operations and does the estimating alongside Martyn. I run the business and the office side of things with Debbie and three other admin staff – including our very own (and Ruddington’s finest!) Carol Jaggers, who has been with Near & Far Removals for nearly 5 years. She’s a legend and we couldn’t do without her!”
